Job Description
Community Engagement Officer (GRT) – 12 month temporary contract
Location: Houndsfield Lane with travel to Evesham and other GRT sites
Salary per annum: £32,857
We are looking for a passionate and proactive Community Engagement Officer to play a key role in an exciting 12-month project funded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
The role focuses on launching and promoting the use of WhatsApp as an accessible and inclusive way for our customers within the Gypsy, Romany and Traveller (GRT) community to connect with us, share feedback, and influence the services they receive. Through regular face-to-face engagement, you’ll support our customers to use the platform in a way that works for them, including features such as voice messaging, helping to remove barriers to communication.
You’ll act as a bridge between the GRT community and the organisation, championing a culture of trust, fairness and mutual respect. Working closely with community champions, you’ll co-design engagement opportunities that reflect what matters most to customers, ensuring their voices directly shape service delivery.
This is a hands-on, outward-facing role where you’ll spend much of your time in the community, building relationships, encouraging participation, and gathering insight. You’ll analyse feedback, track engagement, and work with colleagues to ensure customer views lead to meaningful and visible improvements.
There is also opportunity to work in partnership with external organisations, helping improve access to wider support services and contributing to longer-term plans for expanding digital engagement across the organisation.
About you
This role would suit someone who enjoys being out in the community, building relationships and engaging with people face-to-face. You’ll be a confident and approachable communicator, able to connect with a wide range of customers and build trust.
A passion for supporting underrepresented groups is essential, along with an interest in (or experience of) working with Gypsy, Romany and Traveller communities. You’ll understand the value of listening to customers and using their feedback to shape services.
You’ll be comfortable using tools like WhatsApp, including voice messaging, and be able to support others to use them in a simple and accessible way. You’ll also bring creativity and enthusiasm, with the ability to encourage people to get involved and share their views.
Experience of working with individuals who may face barriers to accessing services would be beneficial, alongside a flexible and inclusive approach to communication.
Above all, you’ll be committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, ensuring every customer feels heard, valued and respected.
